A Natural Acne Remedy - Cucumber
Cucumber has long been used on the eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles but it can also be an effective natural acne remedy.
How Cucumber Can Be Used as a Natural Acne Remedy
Although cucumber doesn’t have the kinds of antibacterial properties of other remedies, there are many ways in which it can be very helpful as part of your overall treatment solution.
Cucumber is very cooling and soothing and this feels wonderful on sore skin so it works very well to reduce the imflammation and soreness that comes with acne. It also happens to work very well on sunburnt skin.
Cucumbers are 90% water so that makes it a very natural way of providing hydration to the skin. This is a great alternative to using moisturizers that can aggravate the skin.
Cucumber can also help to cleanse the skin removing toxins, impurities and dead skin cells and then tightens the skin which makes the pores smaller and less likely to become clogged by sebum which is what causes acne breakouts.
As well as being a great natural acne remedy, cucumber can also be part of your anti-ageing solution. It contains amino acids and minerals and these help to preserve the skin by firming and regenerating it. Some people have gone as far as to claim that cucumber is better at reducing wrinkles than most of the expensive anti-wrinkle creams!
How to Use Cucumber as a Natural Acne Remedy
There are many ways in which you can use cucumber as a natural acne remedy. First of all you can make cucumber juice. If you have a juicer then by all means use that but if not, use the following methos:
First of all, make sure you buy the right cucumbers. Look for dark green ones with a bumpy surface. Cucumbers are usually waxed and treated with chemicals that penetrate the skin so peel the skin off first or use organic ones. Peel the cucumber and then slice the flesh into thin slices with a sharp knife.
Put the cucumber slices in a pitcher of water either at room temperature or cool it down with some ice. Allow the cucumber to soak for around an hour. This will allow the nutrients such as Vitamin A, potassium and chlorophyll to be drawn out and into the water.
Now you can use this water either to wash your face with or you can simply drink it.
Another way to use cucumber as a natural acne remedy is to make a face mask. You’ll need a large cucumber, one egg, 1 teaspoom of tumeric and half a teaspoon of ginger.
Crack the egg and separate the white and the yolk - you only need the egg white for this treatment. Cut the cucumber into pieces and then place all of the ingredients into a food processor and blend thoroughly until it forms a smooth paste.
You can now use this cucumber mixture as a soothing face mask. Use your fingers to apply the mixture to your face but avoid the sensitive areas around the eyes and mouth. Leave the mask on for around 15 minutes and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.
The mixture can be stored in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

A Natural Acne Remedy - Carrots & Carrot Juice
The humble carrot is rich in vitamins A and C as well as sodium, calcium and fiber and all of these active ingredients help the carrot to be an effective natural acne remedy.
How Carrots Are a Natural Acne Remedy
The carrot is probably best known for its vitamin A which has proved to be as effective in dealing with acne as some drugs such as retinoids and isotretonion but it doesn’t have the side effects that the drugs come with. Vitamin A is also very good for keeping the eyes healthy.
Vitimin C is also found in carrots as well as several other fruits and vegetables such as lemons. Vitamin C is known to protect against infection and help boost the immune system.
Another active ingredient in carrots is calcium which is more commonly found in diary products such as milk and cheese. Research has shown that a deficiency in calcium can be a factor in the cause of acne so it is wise to make sure you have enough calcium in your diet. However dairy products also contain lactose and there are many people who are lactose-tolerant and so carrots provide an excellent alternative source of calcium.
Sodium is another ingredient in carrots that can be helpful in the treatment of acne however it has not been scientifically proven yet. Many drugs that are used to treat acne contain sodium though the connection is as yet unknown.
Finally, fiber - this is essential to the proper workings of your digestive system. One of the problems with acne is that toxins build up in the system and fiber can help your body release these toxins naturally. It is also very helpful in treating constipation!
How To Incorporate Carrots Into Your Natural Acne Remedy
Like with many natural acne remedies, carrots and carrot juice can be used in a number of ways to treat acne.
Carrot juice is an excellent cleanser of the blood and can help clear and beautify the skin. It is also an alkalizer which helps to neutralize acidic conditions in the body. You can either buy carrot juice from your local store but many store-bought juices contain additives, salt and so on so if possible buy a juicer and make your own juice.
Another way to use carrots as a natural acne remedy is simply to eat them. They can be eaten both raw and cooked. They are so versatile. They make an excellent salad when grated raw, they can be roasted, boiled, mashed (try carrot and swede mash), and they are also a welcome addition to many soups and casseroles.
Lastly, you can also use carrots topically on the face as a mask. To make a carrot mask you will need to puree the carrot in its raw form. If this does not stick to the face very well then try mixing in a little olive oil as a binding agent. Olive oil also works as a great acne home remedy in its own right.
One warning with regards to carrots: they contain a large amount of beta-carotene and if this is consumed in mass quantities it can actually cause the skin to turn slightly orange! If this happens then reduce the amount of carrots that you are ingesting and mix it up with another natural acne remedy from this website.
